(Image archive) - It is around the Doñana National Park, a Unesco World Heritage site, that 95% of Spanish strawberries are grown, on an area of 5,000 hectares. Spain, Province Huelva, 2007
(Image archive) - It is around the Doñana National Park, a Unesco World Heritage site, that 95% of Spanish strawberries are grown, on an area of 5,000 hectares. The strawberry crop, largely irrigated by wells, 50% of which are unregistered, has reduced by half the inflow of fresh water to the marsh fed by the river Rocina and dried up one of the European Union's most remarkable wetlands. Ultimately, the sustainability of this operation should be called into question (source WWF). Spain, Province Huelva, 2007

It is estimated that 40% of the surface is cultivated illegally and more than a hundred hectares encroach on protected areas (source WWF). Spain, Province Huelva, 2007

With an exceptional biodiversity, this wetland of 100,000 ha, a major stopover for migrating birds, is the refuge of the last lynx population (20 individuals). Spain, Province Huelva, 2007
