This photographic report contains images taken in Toulouse during the 3rd World Youth March for Climate September 20, 2019 and the next day of Act 45 Gilets Jaunes for an "event" entitled "End of the world, end of the month, same fight." As well, a demonstration in support of three activists who took down portrait of Macron, in November before the court and the Toulouse courthouse where they were to be judged (the trial was postponed to May 12, 2020).
On July 19, these 3 environmental activists took down the portrait of the President of the Republic from the wall of the town hall Mérenvielle, in the west of Haute-Garonne (over the whole of France 133 portraits were removed). One way for them to denounce the government's inaction in the face of the climate emergency. They are sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined 75,000 euros.
And as well :
A kind of photographic archive made with a smartphone of images collected from TV, in the press or on social networks (the radio had very good programs on the subject but not very photogenic !) :
- the UN summit (on the initiative of Antonio Guterres) which took place in New York on 24 September 2019 and where Greta Thunberg - who had crossed the Atlantic on a sailboat for the occasion - was honoured.
- the first weekend of the Citizen's Climate Convention (proposed by Emmanuel Macron as an answer to the "Gilets Jaunes" crisis by offering measures to fight global warming) held the 4th and 5th of October 2019 in Paris and where 150 French citizens drawn by lot were asked to define a series of measures "permitting a reduction of at least 40% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 within a framework of social justice." In the end, 6 weekends of 3 days were scheduled and at the end of the discussions, "the government will publish a provisional timetable for the implementation of these proposals". Citizens will then be able to "formulate a common and public response to government responses," the Convention promised.
- the global movement of Extinction Rebellion. The ideal would have been to go to London, "cradle" of this challenge or even to Paris but our finances told us niet!
This hybrid work's ambition is to give an account of the period and to document what could be seen from home (or almost in the case of the Toulouse demonstrations) by a typical citizen of this "episode" (as they say nowadays in our media-politico societies) which testifies to a new appreciation of climate change marked by the climate emergency. Will there be a follow up?
Added in 2021:
- "The ANV-COP21 activists who had taken down a portrait of Emmanuel Macron in Merenvielle (Haute-Garonne) were found guilty and sentenced to a 200 euro suspended fine by the Toulouse criminal court on Friday 21 May. A shocking sentence for their lawyers. »
